A Legacy of Giving: Edmonton Civic Employees Charitable Assistance Fund
For over a decade, Edmonton Civic Employees Charitable Assistance Fund (ECECAF) has been helping students across Edmonton Public Schools thrive. Since 2011, ECECAF has donated over $424,000 to the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation, transforming their belief in community into tangible support for students and families.
Edmonton Civic Employees Charitable Assistance Fund (ECECAF) is a charitable organization that empowers its members of nine Edmonton unions and associations to make a difference in their community. ECECAF pools the generosity of its members to support local charities’ community programs and activities that strengthen the lives of Edmontonians. ECECAF has donated millions of dollars since its inception in 1941, over $30 million being in the last 30 years, to support building a city where every Edmontonian (big or small!) has the opportunity to thrive.
The Impact
ECECAF’s support has reached classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds across Edmonton Public Schools. These donated funds ensure that every child, regardless of circumstance, has the tools and opportunities to learn, grow, and belong. ECECAF’s impact can be seen in the small moments that shape a student’s school day: a backpack filled with supplies, a Chromebook to make learning possible, or a nutritious meal that fuels learning from the very first bell.
From Top-ups for Tummies and Chromebooks for Kids to field trips and art supplies, ECECAF’s support has been both wide-reaching and deeply personal. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when classrooms looked different and connection mattered more than ever, ECECAF stepped up to help fund virtual learning experiences that kept students engaged and inspired. Their generosity also extended to summer learning resource kits, giving students a bridge between school years and fostering an ongoing love of learning.
In Fall 2025, ECECAF approved a $20,000 donation to the Foundation’s Top-ups for Tummies initiative, supporting Division-wide school nutrition programs that help students start each day ready to learn. Because of this continued support, more children are arriving at school nourished, focused, and confident.
ECECAF’s long-standing partnership with the Foundation represents more than financial generosity; it reflects a shared commitment to our community. By investing in students, ECECAF is investing in Edmonton’s future leaders, thinkers, and changemakers.
