Celebrating National Nutrition Month in Edmonton Public Schools
At Edmonton Public Schools, we believe that healthy bodies fuel bright minds. When our students are well-nourished, they don’t just attend class - they thrive, creating a foundation for lifelong success. This March, as we celebrate National Nutrition Month, we embrace the theme ’Nourish to Flourish.’ It’s a call to look beyond the plate and recognize the vital systems and informed choices that empower every student to grow, learn and reach their full potential.
The Edmonton Public Schools Foundation is proud to support the Division through Top-ups for Tummies, a program designed to help bridge the funding gaps, strengthening school nutrition strategies and ensuring more equitable access to wholesome food at school.
The program allows schools to apply for funding to fill gaps in existing nutrition programs or to address emerging needs. Whether it’s providing a hard-boiled egg and a piece of fruit to a student without breakfast or ensuring a cafeteria gift card is discreetly available for a teenager in need of a nutritious lunch, this funding is used exclusively to enhance or supplement current efforts. This flexible approach ensures that support is responsive, dignified and grounded in local realities.

Celebrate National Nutrition Month by making a difference! Your contribution helps ensure that every student has the fuel they need to reach their full potential.

The Edmonton Public Schools Foundation is grateful to the Allard Foundation for its generous donation recently of $10,000 to support the Top-ups for Tummies program. The Allard Foundation is a private family foundation that supports charities in Western Canada primarily in Edmonton and Alberta. Their mission is to make Edmonton and Alberta a better place with funding advancing health, education, family and arts programs. The Allard Foundation believes that each and every one of us can make a difference in our community. We’re very thankful for their donation to Top-ups for Tummies and for making a difference in the lives of the students in Edmonton Public Schools!
Host a fundraising event for the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation
When it comes to giving back, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach, and that’s exactly why we love community fundraisers!
Whether you’re planning a birthday bash, organizing a fitness challenge, or turning a company get-together into a cause for good, your event can directly support students across the City with Edmonton Public Schools Foundation.
By hosting an event in support of the Foundation, you’re doing more than raising money - you’re creating meaningful opportunities for students to thrive in school and in life.
Hosting a fundraiser doesn’t have to be big or complicated. It just has to come from the heart.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Celebrate a milestone: Turn your birthday, anniversary or retirement into a celebration of learning by inviting donations in lieu of gifts.
- Get active for education: Host a run, walk, bike ride or fitness challenge and collect pledges for your efforts.
- Spirit days: If you’re part of a business or organization, consider hosting a jeans day or bake sale with proceeds benefiting students through the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation.
- Get creative: Organize a paint night, trivia tournament, garage sale or craft market with proceeds donated to the Foundation.

A Recipe for Success: When Culinary Excellence Meets Community Care
The Edmonton Public Schools Foundation was proud to be chosen as the charitable partner of Edify Edmonton’s Best Restaurants Event for the third consecutive year. We were excited to attend a fantastic evening where the 27 participating Best Restaurant winners showcased their favourite dishes!
The support from this event helps us raise awareness for student nutrition across Edmonton Public Schools. When our city understands the importance of a nutritious start to the day, we move closer to a future where every student can focus on their learning.
A heartfelt thank you to Edify, the participating restaurants and every guest who shared their evening with us. Together, we are fueling bright minds.
