Building Community, One Court at a Time

At the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation, our mission is clear: every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, both inside the classroom and beyond. That’s why we are incredibly grateful for visionary corporate partners like Go Auto. Over the last four years, Go Auto has served as a dedicated community champion for Edmonton Public Schools and the neighborhoods they anchor.
Fresh Hoops began as a grassroots movement to replace basketball nets and has expanded to offer full-court renovations at multiple schools. Courts updated through Fresh Hoops receive new poles, backboards, nets and freshly painted court lines and tarmac games.
Fresh Hoops courts promote physical health, mental wellness and community pride. They serve as safe, inclusive environments for sport and recreation both during the school day and for the broader neighborhood after school hours.
In 2023, the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation received a generous donation of $500,000 from Go Auto to refresh EPSB courts across the city. Through its Go Gives Back program, Go Auto is focused on helping young people succeed by funding initiatives that directly impact their lives. For Go Auto, Fresh Hoops checked every box:
“Fresh Hoops struck a chord,” says Jared Priestner, Principal and Owner of Go Auto. “We wanted to support something that was tangible and impactful for kids. Something they could see, feel and use every day. The courts are colourful, inviting and they send a message that someone cares about these kids and their schools.”
“It’s not just about writing a cheque,” he says. “It’s about being part of something that creates a lasting impact. These courts will be here for years. Kids will grow up on them. That’s the kind of change we want to be part of.”

Thanks to Go Auto’s transformational support, we anticipate that 21 courts will be fully completed by Fall 2026, giving more than 7,100 students a beautiful new space to play, connect and thrive!

On Saturday, June 13, an incredible 1,700 participants of all ages laced up for the annual Breaking the Silence Mental Health Walk and Run. Breaking the Silence believes in building a future where every person feels seen, valued and supported —and their generosity is making a tangible difference for Edmonton students. Since 2024, a total of $34,000 has been donated to support student mental wellness, providing resources that help students build resilience, feel connected and reach their full potential.
Reflecting on the success of this year’s event, Raju Virk, Founder of Breaking the Silence, shared a personal highlight:
“One of my favourite moments from the event was standing at the start line and looking out at the crowd. It was a reminder that every participant has a story, and together we are building a community where people feel seen, supported, and comfortable reaching out for help when they need it.”
To the Breaking the Silence team, the volunteers, the sponsors and every single person who walked or ran—thank you. Together, we are breaking the silence and building a healthier, more supportive community!
