He moved to Edmonton to attend the University of Alberta and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with an Environmental Engineering Minor. During his time at the U of A, he was passionate about the student experience and leadership, serving as the Students Union’s Vice-President of Student Life. Saadiq currently works as an engineer at ATCO Energy Systems.

During his youth, Saadiq saw firsthand the power of community organizations through various volunteer opportunities as well as through programs like the Royal Canadian Air Cadet Program and through the Ismaili Muslim faith community. Q: What was your favourite subject in school and why?

A: Math, because I have a mind for numbers, Physics, because I had incredible teachers in high school, and Social Studies, because I love learning about history.

Q: Do you have a favorite memory from school?

A: So many great memories from school, but the one that stands out was the demonstration to introduce momentum in Physics 30 by my teacher. He was a wrestler in high school and, although he was a bit older, he was still a pretty big guy. He asked one of the students in the class, who had more of a long-distance runner’s build, to stand up at the front of the class and to run towards him as he stood still. I think you can imagine what happened next! That memory is my favourite not just because of the laughs before, during, and following the demonstration, but because he, like many other teachers I had, was a fantastic educator.
