Bridging the Digital Divide: How Chromebooks for Kids is Empowering Student Success
In today’s classrooms, access to technology is essential. Whether it’s researching a science project, participating in virtual learning, or accessing educational apps and resources, students need reliable devices to succeed. However, for many families in Edmonton, access to this technology is not guaranteed.
That’s where Chromebooks for Kids comes in.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Chromebooks for Kids program is helping bridge the digital divide for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, ensuring they have the tools they need to learn, explore, and thrive.
Creating Opportunities for All Students
Technology has become an integral part of education, offering new ways for students to connect with teachers, classmates, and educational resources.
Through Chromebooks for Kids, brand-new, education-grade Chromebooks are distributed to students who lack access to technology at home. Working closely with school principals across Edmonton, we identify students who need these devices the most.
As one school principal shared:
“The Chromebooks for Kids program helped us bridge a gap we could not fill. Families and students were able to connect with school applications and learning resources outside the walls of our classroom. Access to the internet is becoming increasingly critical, and all students deserve equity in learning opportunities."
In the 2023–2024 school year alone, the Chromebooks for Kids program distributed 538 devices to students from across 76 schools, our highest demand yet. So far this school year, more than 600 devices have already been distributed to students across the city, and referrals continue to come in.
These devices are more than just tools; they’re gateways to opportunity. They empower students to participate fully in their education and reach their potential.
