Celebrating 15 Years of Impact:
The Edmonton Public Schools Foundation

Fifteen years ago, in February 2010, the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation was established with one clear mission: to level the playing field for children coming to the classroom at a disadvantage. Since then, the Foundation has touched thousands of young lives, providing essential resources and opportunities to help students thrive.

Building a Legacy of Support and Growth

Looking back, the numbers tell a powerful story:

  • 1,803 students have benefitted from Full-day Kindergarten programs funded by the Foundation.
  • 2,609 students have received brand-new Chromebooks through Chromebooks for Kids.
  • 796 students are enjoying new books in their classroom libraries.
  • More than 5,400 students now have access to refreshed basketball courts for play and physical activity.
  • On an average day, 4,260+ students receive nutrition support at school through Top-ups for Tummies.

While the ways the Foundation supports students have expanded, the goal of ensuring every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential remains unchanged.

A Heartfelt Thank You

Reflecting on the Foundation’s journey, Dr. Louise Hayes, Founding Board Chair, shares:

“I’m really proud of the number of kids whose lives we have impacted through Full-day Kindergarten and more. It’s a really nice thing to be a part of. We have also been so fortunate to have had such strong board members over the years who believed in what we are doing. Amazing. To the Foundation’s donors, partners, and supporters on this anniversary, I would just like to say thank you. You’ve made a tremendous difference in a child’s life.”

From the beginning, the Foundation has been focused on ensuring equity in education. Dr. Sandra Woitas, Founding Director, reflects on this unwavering commitment:

“Since the beginning, the Foundation has always focused on levelling the playing field and supporting kids in our city who need additional support to succeed in school. While the ways it supports students have expanded over the last 15 years, the mission has always stayed the same, and I think that’s really critical. I’m looking forward to the Foundation continuing to be responsive to the changing needs of students across Edmonton schools, and I hope more people in our city learn about the great work being done to support kids!”

Looking Ahead: Continuing to Make a Difference

As we celebrate this milestone, our work is far from over. Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and succeed, and the Foundation remains committed to supporting students in the ways they need it most.

Whether through Full-day Kindergarten, technology, literacy, mental wellness support, or nutrition programs, the Foundation continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of students across Edmonton Public Schools.

Thank you to every donor, partner, and supporter who has contributed to this incredible journey. Your generosity has changed lives, and together, we can continue to fuel bright minds for years to come.

From our hearts to yours, here’s to the next 15 years of impact!
