As we celebrate a decade of helping more kids succeed in learning, we reflect on some of the impact stories that have emerged.
At our 2017 Ready for Life Breakfast, we heard Jagtar Parhar's touching story about her son’s powerful journey through the full-day Kindergarten program at Tipaskan. Mrs. Parhar and her husband intentionally moved to Edmonton to ensure their son, who has autism, had a meaningful life full of laughter, friends and quality learning opportunities. Our Breakfast guests held back tears as Mrs. Parhar talked about dreams for her son’s future. So, grab your tissues and enjoy!
The Edmonton Civic Employees Charitable Assistance Fund (ECECAF) team shared their Christmas spirit early and put smiles on the faces of our Kinder students and families for the entire school year. Why? Because their Board approved a $29,000 contribution to fund fieldtrips and purchase backpacks, running shoes and summer learning resources for the 140+ children attending our full-day Kindergarten programs. These amazing gifts provide the Kinders with essential items to support their learning and access to field trip opportunities that offer real-world experiences. Huge thanks to the 11,000 ECECAF members from nine Edmonton unions and associations who have been very generous to our Kindergarten classrooms since 2012.

During November and December, The Citadel Theatre and the Downtown Business Association encouraged Edmontonians to dress up Dickensian, visit the holiday market to purchase a $10 giftbag that included a handmade tree ornament and a $20 Cloud Nine Pajamas coupon and attend the play ‘A Christmas Carol.’ To showcase great things happening in schools, students from the John A. McDougall School music program showed up prior to the start-up of the December 8 play and performed some festive tunes. Many thanks to the committee for allocating a portion of profits made through these activities – $1,280 and counting – to support full-day Kindergarten.
