Recognizing Hunger Action Month this September
Fueling Learning Through Nourishment

September is more than just a return to school. It’s a reminder that many students begin each day with big dreams, bright minds, and sometimes, empty stomachs. At the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation, we believe that no child should face hunger on their way to class, because food is more than fuel: it is a foundation for learning.
Hunger Action Month: A call to awareness and compassion
Across Canada, September is recognized as Hunger Action Month, a time to raise awareness about food insecurity and to inspire our communities to act.
Here in Edmonton, our schools see firsthand how proper nutrition supports not just physical health, but mental wellness, academic focus, and social connection. When students are well-nourished, they are better able to engage in the classroom and beyond.
What school nutrition means in Edmonton Public Schools
Proper nutrition connects to learning readiness, cognitive development, emotional stability, and creating safe, caring school communities.
Through our Top-ups for Tummies initiative, the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation works in partnership with schools to ensure that students who need it most receive healthy, nutritious meals and snacks during the school day. However, our support to schools is only made possible by you, our generous donors.

Join the movement to support Top-ups for Tummies
At the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation, we know that nutrition is not optional—it’s essential. A healthy meal can be the difference between a child struggling to focus and a child ready to learn, grow, and thrive.
When you support Top-ups for Tummies, you provide stable, reliable funding that ensures school nutrition programs are always there when students need them most. Your support fuels brighter futures—one meal, one day, one student at a time.
Join us today and help ensure every child has the nourishment they need to succeed.
